What Is U-Load Moving?

Image result for tall building

The MoveAmerica "U-Load-We Drive" concept is a relatively new moving method created by MoveAmerica which results in tremendous savings to you over conventional ways of moving such as contracting with a van line or renting and driving a truck. Our service, which is known as "Self Service Moving", replaces expensive van line labor with your own or that of your family and friends. By doing so you can move thousands of miles and put your hard earned money where it belongs: In your pocket! Forget costly movers and forget renting and driving a truck. No need to pay for gas, tolls, truck insurance, mileage, and all the other costs of truck rental. Don't want to load yourself? We can arrange professionals to do that too and you still save!
You can easily end up saving thousands of dollars over a typical van line move, and we almost always less expensive than truck rental even without counting the cost of gas, tolls, insurance, and mileage. Sometimes we are thousands of dollars less. You must admit that's pretty amazing considering you don't have to rent, pickup, drive, insure, and deliver the truck. You can even save substantially if you hire professional loaders arranged by MoveAmerica! How do we know so much about it? Because MoveAmerica, with 106 years of moving heritage to draw upon, was the company which 15 years ago created and implemented this "self service moving" method that has become so popular with our customers. Others may imitate, but we are proud that we were the first to "originate".
The MoveAmerica U-Load™ concept works because your shipment is loaded into the front of our trailers, secure behind a bulkhead (a wall), and never moves. While commercial cargo is loaded behind your bulkhead, your shipment stays in its position in the front of the trailer, unlike the commercial cargo which may be loaded or unloaded. The only time your shipment is moved is when you unload it at the end of your move.
With MoveAmerica, you don't have to rent, pickup, drive, or fuel a truck, and you don't have to return it at the end of your move. And, if you need storage, we store your trailer until you are ready for delivery.
Our Security Divider Trailers ONLY have your household goods on the trailer, and NEVER stop at anyone else's house along the way. And, trailers NEVER stop at a motel or truck stop for the night, but instead are locked away in a secure, fenced, patrolled terminal. Compare us to a van line, which has multiple person's furniture on their truck, and which parks the trailer at a truck stop or motel every night, or a truck rental, where you have to leave the truck unprotected outside in the parking lot while you sleep.
With MoveAmerica, you are moving your household goods at common carrier cargo rates, which are one third to one half those charged by a typical "van line". This huge savings is a function of many factors, some of which are that you are supplying the labor, that household goods movers are seasonal companies and thus have to make most of their profit in the busy moving season, while MoveAmerica and its carrier partners do not, and that MoveAmerica trailers move on defined "regular" routes where traffic is always available. Household goods movers operate on irregular routes, and have to go looking for shipments wherever they can find one.
Therefore, MoveAmerica can move you far less expensively than truck rental or household goods carriers, move you faster and more reliably, and save you time, money, and effort. If you like, we can even coordinate loading and unloading of your shipment by experienced professional movers at very attractive prices.

Surprising Packing Tips & Tricks Help Moving:

Travel bags

Packing could be a challenge if you don’t pay enough attention to it. But it is usually a very time-consuming job so it is inevitable that a large part of your focus during a relocation goes there. So, there are the traditional packing tips you could find all over the internet with advice like labeling well boxes, not overfilling them, etc., and they are valuable indeed. Here we’d like to give you some easy packing tricks that are not so traditional and not so popular, but quite useful when moving.

Unpopular Packing Tips & Tricks For Moving

Roll your clothes to pack them better instead of folding them. It actually saves space and thus you will be able to get more things within the same space and save on boxes and other packing materials. The other packing rules stay, thought: use larger boxes for lighter items and smaller boxes for heavier items.
Pack things that you will need until your boxes have arrived but consider the specifics. Have in mind the circumstances – what is the weather going to be like when you arrive so you can prepare proper clothing. Check the weather forecast a couple of days before you take off. Also, think about specific items you will need particularly during this period of time. Perhaps your kid has a birthday? Then you may decide to prepare a present in advance and take it with you on the trip. May be there are specific medicines you are to take in that time? Again, in the same box. Just imagine you have already arrived. What will you need?

Use the tricks in our article to pack your travel bags, too!
Clothes that are close to being thrown away could be packed with you and used up until the clothes in your boxes arrive. Then just ditch them. No packing and arranging.
Take photos of each box you have packed after it is labeled. One picture per box. Instead of making lists with boxes, just photograph them to keep easy track. That way when the movers pop in with your stuff you will be able to tell immediately if they’ve missed something. Unfortunately, we’re all human so it can happen even to the best of the best, despite them being so professional and all.
Photograph your travel bags. In case any of them gets lost (no one wants it, but being prepared will save you effort later on), you will be asked to fill in a form describing your bag, and if you have a photo of it, things become much easier then.
Use socks to pack more socks. Thus they take less space inside your moving luggage.
Pay attention to how you pack your travel bags, too. Take all valuables with you like money, credit cards, documents, laptop. Put ear buds in empty and clean medicine containers. You don’t want to put in your ear something that’s been up and down your luggage, rolling freely and collecting all sorts of bacteria, right?

Do you have any special items you want to take with you on the move? Then you will need strong boxes to protect them!
Prioritize. One of the rare packing tricks for moving is prioritizing the things you pack – put at the bottom items you will need just in case like a jacket or sweater, and on top – things you will need immediately like another set of clothes, underwear, a towel, and toiletries. When you place them above everything else in the travel luggage or open-first box, you won’t have to dig in through other unnecessary right now stuff to get to them and this will save you time.
Want to save money from your move? Use your own towels, blankets and sheets for packing things inside the truck. Just consider that you will have to wash them, afterwards. Or use rags you will throw away after the move anyway. Wrap breakable items in the towels that you have to save even more from packing materials.
Fill in the blanks. If there are empty spaces in your boxes, like when you’ve packed a vase, for example, you can use some clothing to put around the item – it will protect it, acting like styrofoam, and you will have packed some of your t-shirts at the same time. Small, fluffy toys will also do the trick if you have any for packing.
Hopefully these different packing tricks and tips will serve you on your move. Of course, there are a lot of things to take into consideration when packing. Here are some great packing tips, some advice on what not to pack when moving and help when packing for a holiday. Do you know more tips and tricks for packing? Let us know by making a comment! Getting to Move Day:

Having everything packed before the movers arrive saves time on move day.  Whenever Fantastic Moves does the packing prior to moving, the move always goes very efficiently and rarely does anything ever get damaged!  Although we prefer to be responsible for packing, some customers insist on packing themselves which is perfectly fine as long as everything gets packed properly.

Here are some tips to help you pack as safely and efficiently as our professionals!

Pack everything small enough to be in a box before the move.
Get started by packing items you will not need every day.
Do not overload boxes- pack heavier items in smaller boxes and lighter, bulkier items in medium to large boxes. See our Boxes and Packing Supplies list for more information.
Use clean, new professional moving boxes if possible. They are designed to protect your belongings better than grocery boxes and are easier to stack and load on the truck.
Use packing tape to seal your boxes instead of duct tape which doesn’t adhere to cardboard.
Seal all boxes so they are stackable. (Interlocking the flaps is not sufficient).
Use a table top with padded surface for your work area when packing / unpacking breakables in case you drop an item.
Label each box with room where each box is to be moved in your new home. Label on top and sides of box. Briefly list contents. Use permanent marker.
Empty filing cabinets down to at least the bottom two drawers so they can be moved safely.
You can leave clothing in dressers, but remove any breakables or heavy items from the drawers.
Wrap lampshades and fine china/crystal in bubble wrap, packing paper and tissue paper. Avoid using newspaper because the ink may cause permanent staining.
Keep important legal documents, family medical records or valuables separate and transport them yourself to your new home.
Pack a box labeled “Essentials” of things you will need immediately at your new home.  Make sure it is the last box to be loaded on the truck so that it will come off first for your convenience.
It is illegal for a moving company to transport hazardous materials such as gasoline, bottled gases, flammables, firearms, ammunition, explosives, alcohol, cleaning fluids, drugs and detergents.  Other arrangements must be made for moving these materials.

How Can Movers Help Me With An Estate?

Featured image courtesy of Ken Mayer at Flickr
If you've ever been put in the position as executor of an estate, you know that it can be a lot of work, even if the deceased made arrangements beforehand. Organizing an estate is emotional and a lot of time consuming hard work, but you can make even a disorganized estate go more smoothly if you follow some basic guidelines.
1. Find all paperwork – if the deceased was organized, paperwork will either be in files at home, in bank safety deposit boxes, at an attorney’s office or at an accountant’s office. If the deceased wasn't so organized, you might have to sort through all belongings to find relevant paperwork.
2. Contact an attorney – in the best of circumstances, the deceased will already have an attorney. If not, find a local probate attorney. He or she will advise you on the best ways to proceed.
3. Work with the funeral home and arrange to receive death certificates. Once you do receive them, notify all creditors, banks, the Social Security administration, pension offices, Medicare, insurance companies, drivers license bureau, etc. of the death.
4. Sort through belongings – if a will doesn't specify that belongings to go a specific person, any valuables should be sold as part of the estate and divided between heirs. Donate the rest to charity and use it as a tax deduction for the estate.
5. Store belongings – if the estate needs to go into probate (the attorney will tell you) it may take a while before you are able to disperse the belongings. If the home needs to be sold, it’s a good idea to get a storage unit.
6. Open a bank account – you’ll need it to pay the estate’s debts. You can also pay day to day expenses out of the bank account without having to wait for the estate to come out of probate.
7. Pay debts and taxes – a CPA can be your best friend in this case.
A good moving company can come in very handy when dealing with an estate. They can help you pack, organize, store and move the belongings, even if they have to go to several different states.
If you are planning your estate, you can prearrange with your favorite moving company to help once the time comes. Payment can generally be made through the estate’s bank account, but check with your attorney.
